Barre and Barre Flow
by Lianne, Odyssey Fitness Coach & Barre Instructor
For those of you that are unsure what Barre is, it’s an aerobic fitness class inspired by some of the fundamental movements in Ballet such as a Plié, which is essentially a squat with a straight back. We use the bar for balance, and to help us focus on working the left or right hand side of the body.
You don’t need any previous experience to attend, just be ready to work and enjoy this alternative exercise class.
In addition to the Wednesday evening Barre class at 5:00pm, you might have seen there is a lunch time Barre Flow class on a Tuesday at 12:30pm.
What is the difference?
The Wednesday Barre class is a fast paced HIIT workout with the use of hand weights, whereas Tuesday is a slower flow class; a gentle transition through each move with a some static postures just body weight. The Barre Flow takes inspiration not only from Ballet but from Vinyasa yoga – this is the flowing element.
Don’t just take it from me…
“Barre classes is a fantastic workout for legs and glutes, the optional use of dumbbells in the Wednesday class works your arms as well!” – Helen K
“Barre is a unique class, different from Yoga and Pilates but with some elements mixed in. Barre is an excellent toning class, I really enjoy it” – Sharon H
