Sunday marked the grand conclusion of the Odyssey Tennis Tournament, and Finals Day certainly didn’t disappoint.
We truly had it all – excitement, brilliant tennis, and even a touch of drama from the weather!
The morning kept Dan on his toes as we flirted with the idea of a postponement, but after he had a quiet word with the skies, things thankfully brightened up. By the end of the day, the sun was shining just in time for the trophy photos.
Match Highlights:
Open Singles Final
The day kicked off with a gripping Open Singles match between Andrew Rodford and Wes Pickett. Wes took the first set 6-3, but Andrew responded with a commanding 6-1 win in the second. That set up a tense third-set tie break, with both players trading strong rallies. In the end, Andrew held his nerve to clinch the title.
Mixed Doubles Final
Defending champion Boris Peck returned with new partner Kerry Turley to face Steve Allan and Pam Bachelor. In a match full of impressive court coverage and quality tennis, Boris and Kerry took the win in straight sets – earning Boris his second consecutive mixed doubles title.
Men’s Doubles Final
Next up, Maxwell Judge and Wes Pickett took on Jonathan Moore and Sri Kamal. With some explosive rallies and big hitting from both teams, it was Jon and Sri who came out on top – earning Sri his long-awaited Finals Day victory.
Ladies’ Singles Final
Sally Webster faced Monika Szitarcsik in a match that showcased great serving and some devastatingly low slices. Sally played with precision and poise, sealing the win in straight sets to claim the title.
Men’s Singles Final
Our final match of the day saw Boris Peck take on Maxwell Judge in a battle of the day’s hardest-working players, both returning to court after earlier wins. Despite Max pushing him all the way, Boris came through with a well-fought straight sets victory – securing his second title of the day.
Ladies’ Doubles Final
Unfortunately, this year’s ladies’ doubles title was decided by default, with Claire Holman and Kerry Turley awarded the win over Anastasia Ermakova and Carmel Horgan.
